The lymphatic system plays a major role in the immune system and helps maintain the body’s fluid balance. The lymph nodes filter out harmful cells for elimination by the body’s defense system. Lymphatic vessels transport lymph (composed of fluid, proteins and cellular debris) from the body’s tissues to the heart. Lymphatic circulation is facilitated by the contraction of lymphatic vessels, the movement of muscles during exercise, and deep breathing.
The Lymphedema Association of Québec provides support, education, and awareness to people living with lymphedema, as well as their families, friends, and healthcare professionals. We provide information and educate about lymphedema and its causes, risk reduction, and treatments for this chronic disease, and encourage scientific research leading to a cure.
